This tragic story should serve as a reminder to everyone that cell phones and selfies are not worth dying over. We see the stories far to often. Someone walks off a cliff while texting or gets hit by a car. While our phones keep us connected, your lack of attention can get you killed.
All it takes is basic situational awareness people. Because you can die due to your attention being on your device. 23-year old med student Sylwia Rajchel was taking a break from her studies in Poland, to take a vacation in Spain. While on the ledge of the Puente de Triana bridge she posed, hoping to take the perfect “selfie.” Rajchel lost her footing and plunged 15 feet into concrete footings used to support the structure.
After impact, Rajchel went into cardiac arrest. Medics arrived at the scene, but they could not save the young woman, who was studying to become a nurse at the University of Medicine in Posada. This is a terrible and sad story. Remember, your phone is not your life. Treat it as a tool, nothing more. And live your life with your eyes and mind more firmly planted in the real world.
