Time goes by so fast. The Nintendo Wii U was launched in 2012. So now is a good time to ask: how has the console done in Nintendo’s homeland of Japan? According to the latest numbers released by Media Create, they have revealed that the Wii U console has sold more than 2 million units in the land of the rising sun so far.
You might remember that back in October Nintendo’s quarterly financials showed that they sold a little over 7 million units since it was launched two years ago. So it looks like things are not too bad for the big N.
This 2 million mark comes ahead of the holiday season when sales are expected to spike. Chances are good that these numbers will be much higher soon. However, when compared to newer consoles like the PS4, 7 million isn’t so hot. The PS4 has been on the market for about a year and it hit the 7 million mark in April. That’s a fraction of the time it took Nintendo to do it.
Good thing that Nintendo has several first-party titles coming soon. That should help with sales, but I doubt they will catch up anytime soon, though I may be wrong.
