Even though the studio has flat out denied that Borderlands 3 is in the works, some fans just refuse to believe it. This does not mean that the game is cancelled or that there will never be a Borderlands 3, but it’s not being made right now. End of story.
Gearbox founder, Randy Pitchford, recently spoke to Polygon and talked about the company’s plans for future titles, and the conversation also touched on the topic of Borderlands. According to Pitchford, “No. We are not developing that right now. We don’t know what that is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don’t know what it is yet.” He also added, “We know we want it and we know it should exist, but we don’t know what it is yet.”
See? They haven’t even given it much thought yet. Pitchford did state that the company is working on something in Borderlands that they will announce soon though. “We are doing things in Borderlands that we’ll announce soon, that are good, and that I think people will be really excited about if you love the franchise.”
It won’t be Borderlands 3, but it seems like it may be in the same universe, so we can look forward to this game at least.
