LG’s new mobile VR headset is basically a plastic version of Google’s cardboard VR viewer. It is finally coming to the US and we have more good news. The company has announced that it will be giving away a free headset, called the VR for G3, with the purchase of its their flagship Android phone, the LG G3.
One word of warning. Don’t expect a super high tech experience here. It is basically using the Google Cardboard platform, making it more or less a box that you can plug your smartphone in for simple VR. Still, if you like the novelty of it you can get it for free with the purchase.
Just slide in your G3 unit and load up a VR app. LG will point you to some VR gaming content. It has a magnet that works with the phone’s gyroscope, which lets you select things without interacting with the screen. Right now we don’t know how existing G3 owners can get their hands on LG’s VR headset. More details will come soon no doubt.
It will at least give you a taste of the virtual reality experience without having to spend big bucks on full fledged VR gear.
