Walmart has now announced the launch of its first online store in Japan. It has teamed up with local tech giant Rakuten. The first e-commerce store called Walmart Rakuten Ichiba Store has been opened on the Rakuten Ichiba internet shopping mall. The teamup combines Walmart’s expertise in delivering U.S. branded products and Rakuten’s dominant position in the online market to bring new shopping experiences to customers in Japan.
Japanese consumers can access a wide variety of U.S. branded products through this online store. Whether it be outdoor goods, toys, fashion apparel and much more. It will have around 1,200 products from many popular brands initially.
All orders will be fulfilled in the United States and sent by air to customers in Japan. Customers will pay a price that includes the shipping, duties, and taxes, with no other surprises.
Walmart will continue to expand the product offerings and add new product categories as it goes on. Customer support will be provided by Walmart’s Japanese subsidiary Seiyu GK.
“Through the opening of the Walmart Rakuten Ichiba Store, we hope to make Rakuten Ichiba an even more attractive destination for online shoppers in Japan,” said Shunsuke Yazawa, executive officer and vice president of the marketplace business at Rakuten. Hopefully, Japanese customers will love it.
