Valve has announced over on the DOTA 2 blog that Steam players can now link their accounts directly to Twitch and receive item drops as you enjoy watching tournaments.
Once you have linked your Steam account with Twitch, you will be able to receive drops as you enjoy watching tournaments, however you will need a ticket for that tournament.
How to Link Your Steam Account to Twitch
Valve explains: “This week, thanks to our friends over at Twitch, you can now link your Steam account to their service. This link makes you eligible for tournament item drops while watching Twitch streams as long you own the ticket for that tournament.
To link your accounts, simply navigate to your Twitch settings and find the connections tab. From there, you can select Steam and follow the prompts to log in and authorize the connection. Once linked, you can start enjoying the benefits immediately.”
Benefits of Linking Your Accounts
We realize that people have different reasons why they prefer to watch in game or via streams and wanted to bridge the gap of features they were missing out on by choosing the service that works for them the most,” Valve continues.
Linking your Steam account to Twitch not only allows you to receive item drops but also enhances your overall viewing experience. For instance, you can participate in Twitch chat with other DOTA 2 fans, engage in community discussions, and even get real-time updates on match statistics and player performances. This integration aims to create a more immersive and interactive experience for viewers.
Moreover, this feature is not limited to just DOTA 2. Valve has plans to expand this functionality to other games in their portfolio, making it a versatile addition for all Steam users who enjoy watching game streams on Twitch. Imagine watching your favorite Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Team Fortress 2 tournaments and receiving exclusive in-game items just for tuning in.
