Many people have wondered if Assassin’s Creed would become an MMORPG, and it has been speculated in the past that Ubisoft could be considering an Assassin’s Creed MMORPG. We thought it was just fans speculating and dreaming, but as it turns out, this is kind of happening, although not exactly in the way you might have imagined.
This MMORPG will come in the form of a mobile game.
Odd move? Maybe. The game will not be developed by Ubisoft themselves. Instead it will be done through a partnership with Chinese game publisher Ourpalm. The latter will be the ones responsible for developing the game, presumably with Ubisoft simply loaning them the rights to use the Assassin’s Creed branding and imagery. This would mean it is essentially free money for Ubisoft.
The game will be exclusive to the Chinese market for now and it does not sound like there are any plans to bring it to the West either. Ubisoft and Ourpalm have worked together in the past with mobile titles like “Hungry Shark Evolution”, so they do know what they are doing. We have no idea what kind of game this will be in the end, but it is interesting. We’ll just have to wait and see.
