Wow. There really is no shortage of people willing to die for their phones. This story seems hard to believe, but we already know that people will sometimes do stupid things to protect their cell phones. Apparently, a woman in Xinxiang city, Henan, China was using an open-pit toilet, when her brand new phone fell in. The device cost 2,000 yuan, which is about $320, so I guess they figured, why not risk injury to themselves.
First, the woman’s husband jumped into the nastiness that is an open pit toilet to save the phone, but he was overcome by fumes and passed out. Then the husband’s mom jumped in because, why the hell not? She too passed out from the fumes. The woman whose phone fell in? She was next. Why stop now? She suffered the same fate. Anyone else? Any takers? Yep. The father-in-law called two neighbors who also both fainted inside the pit.
Finally someone with some sense found a rope and the six people were pulled out of the pit. Sadly, the husband and the mother-in-law died. The woman and a neighbor are in intensive care. A doctor said that the two that died were suffocated. I have said it before and I will say it again. It is not worth your life people. It isn’t even worth getting human waste all over yourself. Know when to let it go.
