If you are Twitter, how can you open up some revenue? Ecommerce is one way. And Twitter needs to generate revenue now more than ever since its a public company and investors will want to see some money. Promoted accounts and tweets got things started, but they are going to need more revenue than that. A lot more if they want their investors happy.
According to some new reports, Twitter has found a new way to gain some revenue. It will partner with Stripe to add a “buy” button in tweets. The button will allow users to buy the stuff mentioned in tweets. It makes it easy to buy and sell things over twitter. Everyone wins.
The reports say that back in January Twitter was close to signing a deal with Stripe, a payments startup, but things got delayed. Apparently both parties are ready to form the partnership now and the ability to purchase items from tweets is “nearing.” When you click the buy button you will be able to enter shipping and payment information. The idea is to enable users to shop without leaving Twitter. Word is that many retailers, businesses and brands have already signed up for the service. Rumor is that we will see it roll out this holiday season, just in time for Christmas.
