Twitch is one of the biggest game streaming services out there and now it’s going to make waves in other areas of the gaming industry now too. The company will start selling games and in-game content.
Stream viewers will be able to buy games made available by both big and independent publishers through the channels of their favorite streamers. This could be big for Twitch.
Twitch has confirmed that it’s going to start selling games and in-game content later this year. It will be a new revenue stream for the company. Not only that, but it’s going to share a cut of those sales with streamers. Partnered streamers will get 5 percent of sales that originate on their channels while 70 percent will go to the game’s creators.
Customers who make any purchase over $4.99 on Twitch’s platform will get additional Twitch-specific items through a service called “Twitch Crate,” which may include a random selection of emotes, Bits, and badges. They already have some big publishers onboard and their games will soon be sold on Twitch. Telltale Games and Ubisoft are just two. Publishers like Activision, Bandai Namco, EA, and Square Enix have not yet confirmed if they will work with Twitch yet. Twitch has not confirmed a release date yet, but we do know that it will begin selling games sometime in the spring of 2017.
