The demand for the Nintendo Switch is at an all time high. So if you are Nintendo, what do you do to try and speed thing up and meet that demand? Well, despite the fact that shipping items over air is expensive, you may want to do that.
In fact the costs can be astronomical when you’re trying to ship hundreds of thousands of units of a new product by air. However, if you’re Nintendo, and feeling the pinch from a demand-supply gap, you do whatever you possibly can to meet rising demand.
That’s what Nintendo did for the Switch. To meet high demand for the new console, Nintendo has been shipping Switch consoles by air, hard as that is to believe. The demand is just that high. Nintendo confirmed recently that it has sold more than 2.7 million units of the Switch globally ever since the console was first released in March. It could have sold more had it not been struggling to meet this demand.
GameStop’s Senior Director of Merchandising, Eric Bright told Forbes that demand for the Switch has been exceeding the retailer’s expectations. A spokesperson for Nintendo told The Wall Street Journal that “We carried some of the Switches by plane in March to serve our customers more promptly.”
