We’ve seen app stores from Apple, Google, Microsoft, BlackBerry and Amazon. Now there’s a new kind of app store, but not what you might think. This app store won’t be available to the general public. The U.S. Department of Defense is getting its own app store for it’s own needs.
In fact the department has awarded a $2.9 million contract to Digital Management, a firm based in Maryland. When Digital Management’s contract ends in July of next year, the DoD will have the option of renewing it for four six month stints if they are happy, costing around $16 million. This is some serious money.
The app store will need to work with a variety of platforms. You won’t find fart apps or Angry birds in this app store.
