We all know that Sony is working on their next-gen console, the PS5, but we don’t know when it will launch. Some analysts had previously predicted a late 2019 or 2020 launch, but analyst Yasuo Imanaka, an industry analyst for Rakuten Securities thinks it could be launching later than that.
According to Imanaka, Sony’s PS5 might launch in 2021 or 2022. He says that there is a chance the console could be released in the fiscal year beginning April 2020, but it’s not very likely.
This is just the opinion of one analyst, but it seems like a reasonable assessment. However there are rumors that Microsoft could be looking to launch a new Xbox console at E3 this year where it could be released in 2020. For Sony to wait until 2021 or even 2022 to release theirs doesn’t make sense if that is accurate.
Hopefully, Sony and Microsoft will have some hints to share at E3 later this year. In the meantime Sony has confirmed that there will be a next-gen PlayStation console but has stayed quiet on a potential release date. One thing is for sure, both companies are making moves behind the scenes for their next gen consoles. It’s just a question of when they arrive.
