Sony’s PS4 launched back in 2013 and has been wildly popular ever since. The console still continues to outsell the competition, which is what happened in the month of October 2018 as well. The latest data from NPD Group shows that the PlayStation 4 outsold the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch in terms of dollar and units sold.
This isn’t surprising. The overall spending on gaming hardware was up 26 percent in October 2018 compared to the year before. The NPD Group saw significant gains in spending on both PS4 and Xbox One. Hardware spending surged 19 percent so far this year with the PS4, Xbox One, and devices like the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition driving solid growth.
The PlayStation 4 is maintaining its momentum of year-over-year growth, according to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella. The hardware unit sales for the PS4 hit an all-time October higher for the platform. “While PlayStation 4 hardware dollar sales reached its highest point for an October month since October 2014,” Piscatella added.
The data shows that this was actually one of the best Octobers that the PS4 has ever had too. Unit sales of the console in October 2018 have reached the highest mark for any PlayStation console in an October month since the PlayStation 2 back in October 2002. It looks like the PS4 continues to dominate.
