If you were hoping for some multiplayer with Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2, you might be sad to learn that the game will not be shipping with a multiplayer mode. This has been confirmed in a recent interview with Naughty Dog Lead Game Designer Emilia Schatz.
Schatz said, “We’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game for this.” When they asked Sony for clarification, a representative confirmed that what Schatz said was correct. The Last of Us 2 will be a single-player game and that’s it.
You might remember back at E3 2018, when the game’s directors confirmed to some media outlets that multiplayer mode would be making a comeback. Well, sadly plans change and I guess that is what happened here, with the multiplayer feature being dropped.
This is sad for gamers who enjoyed the Factions multiplayer mode in the first game, however, The Last of Us has been mostly about the storyline, so maybe this is the right call. We will know when we can play it. The Last of Us 2 has been confirmed for a release on the 21st of February, in 2020. So we still have a wait for this very popular game.
