The police have a tough job. It’s not easy keeping people safe. To do their job, they need the best tools they can get to do their job effectively. To that end, LA’s police department is now considering using some of the best electric cars ever made for use in “high-pursuit” situations.
They have been testing and evaluating a pair of Tesla Model S P85D cars that they are borrowing from Tesla. They want to add a few of these electric cars to their fleet.
Police need fast cars to catch bad guys. That’s just a fact. A top-of-the-line Model S with Ludicrous Mode enabled can go from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, so bad guys will be caught. And since police often perform cool driving maneuvers to catch felons, the Model S is just the ticket. It is very well built, and can survive an accident even after soaring 82 feet in the air, which is pretty impressive. It is seemingly the perfect car for them.
These cars are not cheap though and police departments aren’t made of money. LAPD Police Administrator Vartan Yegiyan acknowledges that the Model S is a bit too pricey right now for the department, but these vehicles continue to get cheaper, so they will become a more viable option in the next few years.
