Now with iOS 8, iOS users can finally install third-party keyboards on their devices. This is a great feature, no doubt, but the question is, is it one that many iOS users really want? Well, it turns out that the answer is a resounding yes, according to the number of SwiftKey downloads in 24 hours.
SwiftKey’s keyboard was released alongside iOS 8 and according to SwiftKey, they managed to get over 1 million downloads within a 24 hour period! That is amazing. So yes, people really have wanted this feature. Also, SwiftKey has managed to hit number 1 on the US free app charts. Pretty awesome achievement.
I think we can now safely say that many iOS users out there have been eagerly waiting for this feature for quite a while. Maybe a lot of users are just curious about third-party keyboards and are taking SwiftKey’s keyboard for a tryout. Either way, it is in demand. SwiftKey is currently free which makes them more attractive than Swype and Fleksy, both of which are paid downloads. That definitely helps. This way people can try it and decide if third-party keyboards are what they want. And it won’t cost them anything. That’s a great recipe for success.
