When Nintendo launched Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS, that version of the game had a certain amount of customizability. Players could modify the special moves of their characters. It also had a feature that players liked where you could equip items onto your characters in certain modes of the game.
Well, if you loved these features you might be disappointed with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This news was confirmed by GameSpot during a hands-on demo with the game. They asked Nintendo if custom moves and equippable items would be returning, and Nintendo stated that they won’t be.
However there is still some customization in the form of Spirits. You can collect these by unlocking challenges on the Spirit Board, and through the single-player World of Light adventure mode. These Spirits will give players a stat boost and special abilities, however you can’t customize them on the level that was available on the Wii U and 3DS. That’s something at least.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set for a release on the Nintendo Switch on December 7th. It will have online play but players will need a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service to use it.
