Well, we heard the news awhile back that Seinfeld would be coming to an online video streaming service. Not long after that Netflix had dropped out of the race to secure the rights. The battle over those rights was between Amazon for Prime Instant Video and Hulu. Hulu came out on top.
And now at long last all 180 episodes of this popular series can now be streamed from Hulu. Only subscribers who pay monthly for Hulu’s premium service will be able to stream Seinfeld online on-demand. You get access to all 180 episodes that have not been sped up, so you can enjoy the show in the way the creators intended it to be.
Hulu never admitted how much it had to pay to secure the exclusive online streaming rights for one of the most popular shows ever, but reports indicate that it paid around $150 million, which is about $0.8 million per episode.
Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said that he believes Seinfeld is a “one-of-a-kind property” which will help the online streaming service attract a completely new audience. He is probably right.
Maybe Seinfeld will convince you to finally pay $8 per month for a premium subscription on HULU. You get Seinfeld and a lot more.
