There is no doubt that Steam is a popular gaming service now. On Sunday, Steam logged a record breaking number of concurrent users, beating its previous high of 6.6 million users. Figures on the service’s site show that Steam hit 7,190,578 concurrent users on December 1. The figure just shows the service’s growing popularity, and this has to help the company’s upcoming Steam Box gaming devices.
The most popular game, in case you are interested, is still Dota 2. That title hit 542,906 concurrent users. Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the second most popular title with just 93,905 concurrent users.
Now obviously this record breaking number was helped along by the most recent Steam sale, which discounted many popular titles, but hey, they broke the record and that is all that matters. We may see even more increased interest in Steam in the next few months, since Valve has rolled out Steam OS and a new Steam Controller. Both should expand the platform’s influence in the gaming market, bridging the once wide gap between PC gaming and console gaming. I know many gamers who are looking forward to Steam Box. I bet they shatter this record before long.
