It seems that premium networks have finally seen the writing on the wall.No doubt this is why they’ve started to embrace cord cutters. Both HBO and Showtime have already launched their standalone online streaming services and now Starz has joined them.
Starz has announced the launch of its standalone online TV streaming service. And here’s the thing. It costs less per month than Showtime and HBO.
If you are a current Starz customer who already gets the channel via a premium cable subscription, you will get access to the app for free. New subscribers will have to pay $8.99 per month in order to be able to stream Starz online. The per month cost is lower than HBO Now which costs $14.99 and Showtime which comes in at $10.99 per month, so fans will love that. The network plans to eventually bring all of its original content to the streaming service aside from hit movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Starz has positioned itself as a relatively cheaper entry point to online TV streaming and they have some decent content, so this will help them compete with the big boys. Here’s another bonus. Unlike its competitors, Starz is going to provide subscribers with “virtually unlimited” downloads so they will be able to store shows and movies on the device for viewing when there’s no internet connection. You can download the Starz app via the App Store and Google Play Store.
