Good news for all the HTC EVO 4G owners out there, as Sprint has finished testing Android 2.2 (Froyo) for the EVO 4G and will be rolling out Android 2.2 from the 3rd of August 2010.
Android 2.2 will bring a range of new features to the HTC EVO 4G, which include voice dialing over Bluetooth, the ability to store your applications on external memory, plus camera four way rotation which allows the camera icons to rotate with the camera.
“Sprint is thrilled with our customers’ response to HTC EVO 4G and the innovative and exciting experience it offers,” said Fared Adib, vice president – Product Development for Sprint. “It is exciting for us to lead the industry in bringing the Android 2.2 update to these customers and improve on the amazing experience they receive with America’s first 4G capable phone.”
Enhanced Performance and New Features
Other features in Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G include improved browser performance, with a faster JavaScript engine, and Flash 10x. This means that users will experience quicker load times and smoother browsing, making it easier to access and enjoy web content. The inclusion of Flash 10x support is particularly noteworthy, as it allows users to view rich media content directly in the browser, enhancing the overall web experience.
Additionally, Android 2.2 introduces a new feature called “Wi-Fi hotspot,” which allows the HTC EVO 4G to share its 4G connection with other devices. This can be incredibly useful for users who need to connect their laptops or tablets to the internet while on the go. The Wi-Fi hotspot feature can support up to eight devices simultaneously, making it a versatile tool for both personal and professional use.
Improved Usability and Customization
Android 2.2 also brings several usability improvements to the HTC EVO 4G. One of the most significant is the ability to store applications on external memory. This feature addresses a common complaint among Android users who often run out of internal storage space. By allowing apps to be stored on an SD card, users can install more applications without worrying about running out of space.
Another notable enhancement is the camera’s four-way rotation feature. This allows the camera icons to rotate with the camera, making it easier to take photos and videos from different angles. This feature is particularly useful for users who frequently use their phone’s camera for capturing moments on the go.
Moreover, Android 2.2 includes several under-the-hood improvements that enhance the overall performance and stability of the HTC EVO 4G. These include better memory management, faster application switching, and improved battery life. Users can expect a smoother and more responsive experience with these optimizations.
Android 2.2 will start rolling out to the EVO 4G from August the 3rd. This update is expected to be available to all HTC EVO 4G users within a few weeks, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the new features and improvements as soon as possible.
