Last month there was news that Southwest Airlines would be offering its passengers gate-to-gate WiFi as part of the FAA’s new ruling that personal electronic devices can be used during all stages of the flight. This also means that passengers will have to pay to use inflight WiFi services, which is currently priced at $8 for all-day usage. Well, they can do you one better than that deal.
If you just want to use their WiFi, for say messaging, Southwest Airlines has announced that beginning today, they will be offering iOS users the ability to send iMessages for just $2 a day. That’s not a bad price if that’s all you want. We imagine most people would pay that happily. Your connectivity will be limited to just sending and receiving iMessages of course. Southwest Airlines has promised something similar for Android users in 2014, so they needn’t feel left out.
This is a service that most people would be glad to pay for while flying and it is perfect for those who don’t need the entire internet at their disposal. Maybe they just want to keep busy during their flight. It seems like a good move by the company.
