These days, most of us discover upcoming movies on Facebook, whether it is a sponsored post or a trailer that one of our friends shared. The next step is usually to open up a new tab and see where we can buy tickets.
So it makes sense that Facebook will be teaming up with Fandango to sell movie tickets right on a movie’s Facebook page. That will make it easier then ever to buy tickets.
This integration has already gone live in the United States with a handful of titles including Kevin Hart: What Now?, The Magnificent Seven, and Storks. We will see more in due time. Fandango will be prominently featured on the movie’s page and a large blue button titled “Buy tickets” will appear at the top of the screen. Tapping the button on mobile will bring up a list of nearby theaters and showtimes. You can go through the entire checkout process without even having to leave the Facebook app.
Clicking on the button on your desktop machine will just redirect users to Fandango’s website. If this feature does well, it may be rolled out more widely. What do you think? Do you like the idea?
