Companies like Sony and Microsoft have their own online gaming networks where PlayStation and Xbox gamers can play multiplayer games. For Sony, it is the PlayStation Network (PSN) which is apparently growing nicely because according to Sony’s latest figures, PSN has hit 70 million monthly active users.
This is an impressive number and one that Sony is surely celebrating.
What this means is simple. It means that at least 70 million players from around the world are logged into Sony’s PSN and are playing games and chatting with each other on a monthly basis. In fact, Sony’s PSN is now boasting a higher monthly active user count compared to Microsoft’s Xbox Live. So they must be doing something right on their PSN network.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Xbox Live had 55 million monthly active users. The number has probably increased since then, although whether or not it has reached PSN levels or even higher, we don’t know. At least until we see the official figures. Right now Sony is winning. Sony is also boasting that its PlayStation Plus service has hit 26.4 million subscribers, which is up by over 6 million users from the year before. Sony is growing very nicely according to these numbers.
