Sony’s PlayStation 4 console is one of the best consoles of the current generation, so it is no surprise that the total number of units that Sony has shipped to date is at 82.2 million. This is thanks to the 3.2 million units that the company managed to ship in the past quarter.
The PS4 just prints money for the company. However, shipping figures do not necessarily equate to units sold. These are units shipped to retailers around the world. There is a slight dip in sales from the same period in the previous year though, where Sony actually sold 100,000 units more than this year. There could be many factors as to why that might be, but it definitely is not all bad news for the company. Sony seems to be optimistic about the next year though.
We know this because the company has increased its forecast of 16 million units sold in the fiscal year of 2018, to 17 million units sold between the 1st of April, 2018 to the 31st of March, 2019. Whether or not they will succeed we will have to see. Nintendo is forecasting that they will sell more as the company predicts that they will hit 20 million units in the same period.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
