Sony’s PS4 console is one of the most popular consoles in the world today, and based on the latest figures, it would appear that Sony owns this particular generation of consoles. This is because in the company’s latest earnings report, it was revealed that they had sold 100 million PS4 consoles to date. Wow.
Sales of the PS4 are actually slowing down, which doesn’t come as a surprise. After all, we are nearing the end of the current generation of consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony have actually confirmed that they do have next-gen consoles in the works.
Microsoft has not yet shared the official sales figures of their Xbox One, but I think we can safely assume that Sony’s is running the show. The Nintendo Switch is also doing pretty decent for itself, and was even the best-selling console during Cyber Monday in 2018.
In Japan, Nintendo has surpassed the PS4’s lifetime sales with the Switch, but that’s just for one market. I think we can say that Nintendo has a long way to go before it can catch up to Sony. It will be interesting to see how far ahead Sony will get before the PS5 is released. And will this translate to sales of the new console?
