SEGA’s Sonic franchise is one of the most popular and recognizable game franchises in video game history. And even though gamers these days might be more focused on current titles, they love playing the old stuff too. According to SEGA, Sonic Mania has managed to sell 1 million copies to date.
Sonic Mania is the latest installment in the Sonic franchise, released back in 2017. Instead of going the modern route, SEGA chose to keep it classic. The game was designed in 2D as a side-scroller and was created to commemorate Sonic the Hedgehog turning 25 years old. It turns out it was a hit with gamers.
The game pretty much plays like how Sonic games you used to play back in the day. Over 1 million copies of the game have been sold. While SEGA did not break down the numbers, the company claims that this spans across various platforms that the game was released on, such as PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. If this shows us anything, it is that you can’t keep a good hedgehog down.
We all love classic games and this proves it. It’s not just nostalgia, but many of the games were just better and different.
