Japanese gaming company Square Enix is known for some pretty awesome games and they have been creating them for years. We all love the games and want to play them. But users with rooted devices beware, you can’t play Chaos Rings, a $13 game that launched for Android on October 10.
In fact as soon as the game went on sale, the Google Play store was overrun with one-star reviews from users claiming problems running Chaos Rings on their rooted devices. Square’s official statement made it sound like it was just a technical issue, but some posts on the XDA developer forums claim that the game has a launch-time check for rooted apps, which would imply that Square Enix knew about it and purposely blocked rooted Android users.
I think they were just unprepared for this kind of outcry and are covering their butt. As a game maker, who cares if a device is rooted. That doesn’t mean your game was pirated. You are punishing your own audience.
