If you are any kind of gamer, you know the name Sega. The Japanese game creator announced today that it will remove some of its older games from various app stores. This decision will affect games distributed through all the major app stores, like the Apple App Store, Google Play, the Amazon App Store, and the Samsung App Store.
We don’t yet know which games will be withdrawn, but the official statement mentions that some of the games that SEGA plans to withdraw might be published in the future. Hopefully they will let us know which, so we can play them while we can.
Here is what they are thinking. Sega officials said that they’ve evaluated their list of gaming titles, and that a number of these titles are now below the company’s standards. If you have purchased a SEGA game and that game gets removed, you’ll still be able to download and play these titles, but these games might become incompatible with upcoming operating system updates. Well, at least they are talking about standards, so maybe they are getting rid of the garbage in favor of quality over quantity. And that is good news for gamers. We don’t want sub-par games that’s for sure.
