It looks like we might see the launch of a gaming platform for Snapchat next month if we can believe rumors. I know, you wouldn’t expect it from Snapchat. The announcement is expected at the Snap Partner Summit in Los Angeles on April 4th.
Snap has not confirmed or denied the report about the launch of a gaming platform, so take it with a grain of salt for now. This isn’t the first time that Snap would try its hand at gaming. It launched Snappables last year which were basically AR lens games. This new project is said to be more substantial and the platform would even allow third-party developers to make games that would be accessible from within the Snapchat app.
There have been several reports over the past few months that suggested the possibility of a gaming platform for Snapchat. The company is also said to have acquired an Australian game studio called Prettygreat in January. So it looks like there may be some truth to the rumors, but they remain just that. Rumors.
Games would result in increased user engagement and allow the company to make more money, so it makes sense. We will have to wait and see.
