There has been alot of rumor and speculation about the revenue streams that Snapchat will open up in order to capitalize on its massive user base and now we know exactly what will happen and it is not a new tactic. Advertisements. Plain and simple.
We know for sure now because Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel confirmed as much at a Vanity Fair event in San Francisco. He confirmed that the messaging service will soon be getting its first ads. These ads won’t be targeted so you won’t see anything similar to the ones you see on Google or Facebook.
The ads on Snapchat won’t be targeted because the service doesn’t collect as much information about its users which can then be used to target ads at them. So then why would they want advertisers if they aren’t targeted advertisements? Well, it is simple. Snapchat is great for advertisers because of its reach with younger demographics. After all, 50 percent of all users are under the age of 25. Ads will be displayed in Snapchat’s new “Stories” feature which lets users create a feed of snaps that can be viewed multiple times over 24 hours. We don’t know when ads will hir snapchat though. Only that they are coming soon.
