We may not have the problem here in the U.S., but for those who are in war torn countries, or a country that has a very high probability of an incoming attack, you want a good system to warn you.
Israel has been the target of other countries wanting to lob missiles at them, so the Israeli Home Front Command has started an experiment in the country using text messages.
They will send text messages to cellphones and smartphones in the event of an incoming missile attack. Their experiment called “Personal Message” recently ended. The idea is to deliver area-specific warnings that are based on the projection of an incoming trajectory of a rocket or missile.
The test had a message that says, “The Home Front Command, checking cellular alert system,” with a number following it. The messages are sent in Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian. A program like this could save many lives.
