Disney’s The Mandalorian is still months away from its premiere, but already season two of the show is underway. Jon Favreau told Collider that he’s already in pre-production for a second season of the live action Star Wars show, including writing and preparation for special effects shots. So they must have a lot of faith in the show.
But it is also about saving time since it’s tricky to produce quality effects on a TV schedule. It still shows that Disney must believe in this show though.
This move isn’t a complete surprise. The Mandalorian is a tentpole show for Disney+, and may have to carry the streaming service until Disney adds more to its catalog of originals. As long as the first season held promise, a second season was a reasonably safe bet. Anyway, this is a good sign for anyone worried that the show might stumble out of the gate. Many are hoping that this show can redeem Disney Star Wars, which has been a failure with the fans, despite making money.
The show has a solid premise, a good producer and now a second season. We will find out soon if it is everything that we hope.
