The SNES Classic was only just announced. This is the successor to the NES Classic Edition that was recently discontinued. The console will be released at the end of September, but it looks like pre-orders from several retailers have already sold out and of course, this is creating a sad scalping situation.
Some people have started to list their pre-orders on eBay for as much as £299.99, saying that this is a “guaranteed” pre-order (the listing has since been taken down as often happens). The NES Classic Edition had a similar situation, where sellers jacked up in price once we heard news that the console would be discontinued.
It is happening again. The release is still several months away and we’re not sure if paying more than double or triple the retail price is a smart idea. Because who knows, maybe they will be easier to get this time. Nintendo has confirmed that they will be working hard to make more units available than the NES Classic Edition.
I guess time will tell. There are always people out there willing to raise the price and make a quick buck. You should contact local retailers to see if they might be getting more stock before paying these people.
