According to a recent report by IDC, Samsung shipped a massive 72.4 million smartphones in quarter two of 2013, this is a 43 percent increase for the same period in 2012, giving Samsung a 30.4 percent share of the market.
In second place are Apple with a total of 31.2 million smartphones shipped, this is up 20 percent from 2012, and in third place we have LG who shipped a total of 12.1 million smartphones.
Samsung, on the heels of its Galaxy S4 launch during the quarter, saw its volumes reach new levels and accounted for nearly a third of the entire smartphone market. Not to be overlooked is the continued success of its Galaxy S III smartphones, which saw renewed interest following discounted prices in advance of the Galaxy S4 launch. By the end of the quarter, Samsung more than doubled the total volumes of the next largest vendor, and shipped more units than the next four vendors combined.
Samsung have seen great success with their Galaxy range of smartphones, the company can expect this to continue with new models like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to be released over the new few months.
