It looks like Samsung may be ready to take on ASUS when it comes to phones that dock and power a tablet, based on a patent received by Samsung. One difference between the ASUS Padfone and the device in this patent filing is the odd shape.
The ASUS Padfone is a standalone smartphone that connects to a dock on a screen to turn that screen into a tablet. Samsung’s device doesn’t really look like any smartphone we’ve ever seen since it has more of a T shape at the top. The design makes it look like the tablet is a stand-alone device and only the user will know that it is actually being powered by a smartphone. It’s an interesting take on the idea for sure.
It was originally filled in the first quarter of 2012 in Korea and the following quarter in the U.S. It looks like Samsung intends to challenge ASUS and boost sales.
