Apple fans can get a rare prototype from Apple’s history thanks to the magic of eBay. The WALT (Wizzy Active Lifestyle Telephone) was first unveiled at Macworld Boston in 1993. It’s rare because it never shipped. It was designed to add features to a traditional landline phone, through BellSouth.
The device featured a stylus-driven touchscreen and ran a heavily modified System 6 with Hypercard replacing the Finder to give all of the basics like contacts but banking, as well as faxing and a message pad. Even though it never shipped, it had a printed manual that was available at the show, which is included.
This model on ebay is not fully functional, but it is believed that the flaws are simply “loose connections” and that it can be restored easily. The auction has a “buy it now” of $8,000 price and you can make a ” best offer” if you need to have this one.
