The PlayStation 4 has been a massive hit for Sony. Just ask Microsoft. The console has consistently outsold the Xbox One since launch and will soon hit another major milestone. According to the figures officially revealed by Sony, PS4 sales will soon cross 100 million units.
Sony said last year that PlayStation 4 sales had fallen for the very first time year-over-year. That happened again in 2019 but the console has still had a pretty strong showing. The company sold 17.8 million PS4 units in the fiscal year ending on March 31st, slightly down from the 19 million units sold in the previous fiscal year.
Sony did say that it has now sold 96.8 million PS4 units since the console was launched. So the PlayStation 4 will cross the 100 million units sold mark faster than the Nintendo Wii did. Sony expects to sell 16 million PS4s in the ongoing fiscal year. These numbers are very impressive.
It also mentioned the PlayStation 5 which it recently confirmed is in development and on the way. Sony says that the PlayStation 5 will not arrive within the next 12 months, which makes it likely that the new console may be launched around the holiday season in 2020. We will let you know when we hear more about it.
