Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes was released in March and it was a pretty popular game. It had about 1 million copies shipped in a month since the release. Now the game is available across several platforms, like the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One, but interestingly it looks like the game has been hugely popular for the Sony PlayStation 4.
The following numbers should put this generation’s “console war” in perspective. Konami has revealed that the PS4 version of the game has sold three times more copies compared to the Xbox One version. While Konami did not share any specific numbers, according to their latest financial report, Ground Zeroes accounted for 16% of the company’s total software sales, which is pretty impressive overall.
So then we have to ask why the PS4 version of the game doing better. There are no exclusive features. It might be the difference in graphics quality. It has been revealed that the Xbox One version of the game only ran at 720p @ 60fps, while the PS4 version was 1080p @ 60fps. That may have been enough to sway gamers toward the PS4 in this case. Of course the PS4 is selling more than the Xbox One, so that may be the big factor here.
