Both the PS4 and Xbox One launch next month, and with them comes all kinds of new console performance. The hardware inside both machines is similar to what modern PCs offer right now and developers are already taking advantage of that in games like Killzome Shadow Fall. The games won’t just look better, the gameplay will be hyped up too.
Killzone: Shadow Fall lead designer Eric Boltjes recently discussed the capabilities of the PS4 and how much better it is than previous generation hardware. Comparing the Killzone games on the PS3 with Shadow Fall, he says that the PS3 had enemy AI limited to seven on screen at one time. Of those seven, you could have two different types of enemy. This is great, but still limited.
Shadow Fall on PS4 has the enemy AI count maxing out at 24 with several different types. That’s 3x better! I can see that this game is going to be crazy! If a 25th enemy is added, the frame rate of the game will drop, so that won’t happen very often in Killzone: Shadow Fall. I can’t wait to check out these next gen consoles to see what they can do. We are going to have some very busy and hectic games.
