According to a recent report by MCV, it looks like as far as the UK is concerned, the PS4 is leading the Xbox One in sales. In the first five weeks of sales alone, the PS4 managed to sell 530,000 units, while the Xbox One managed just 364,000 units. So the PS4 is in the lead by 166,000 units.
As far as revenue generated by sales, the PS4 earned Sony £181.8 million, while the Xbox One earned Microsoft about £144.5 million. So far at least, we can conclude that the PS4 is winning. Both are amazing consoles and neither one really outperforms the other, so it probably comes down to games and brand choice. Xbox One’s higher price likely isn’t helping it either since it comes with the Kinect. Many people don’t want a kinect and so don’t want to pay extra for something they wont use.
It will be interesting to see what the numbers tell us in six months or so. I have a feeling that the PS4 will continue to be in the lead. That lead might even grow. We will have to wait and see how gamers choose their new console.
