Well, after the price cut Microsoft had hoped that sales of the XBox One would catch up to Sony’s PS4, but if they ever do, it won’t be for the month of June. The NPD Group who has released their monthly report for physical sales in the US market for the month of June and Sony still dominates.
According to their latest figures, and despite increased interest in the Xbox One due to the price cut, the PlayStation 4 still managed to earn the title of the top-selling console in the US for June. Maybe July will be Xbox’s month. We will have to wait and see. As of right now however, Sony is king. And that is without a price cut on their part.
Microsoft had boasted that they had doubled their sales after the price slash and if that is true, the fact that they still could not catch up really illustrates how far behind they are. Even doubling their sales isn’t enough to overtake the PlayStation 4. That looks really bad for Microsoft.
Microsoft will just have to hope and pray that their upcoming titles will draw gamers in. It will be interesting to see what happens here.
