No matter what you think about the super-wide format, Philips is done with it. The company has just announced that it won’t be releasing any more 21:9 TVs. The reason is simple lack of interest and their efforts are best focused elsewhere.
Even though Philips has regularly released new extra-wide sets since 2009, a spokesperson confirmed that demand barely meets the firm’s requirements for mass production. Oh well.
Super wide lovers will have to go elsewhere. LG hasn’t given up. Philips will still be making large screens though, just not in the 21:9 format. They are especially interested in 50-inch screens, and above.
