There was an interesting rumor over the weekend, that Pepsi is gearing up to launch its own smartphone in China. A phone from Pepsi? It looks like it. The Pepsi P1 specifications have now been leaked, and apparently Pepsi P1 is what this device is going to be called. Not exactly an outstanding moniker. We still don’t have confirmation from the soft drink company as to whether or not this is for real though.
The alleged specs give the Pepsi P1 smartphone a 5.5 inch 1,080×1,920 pixel resolution with a MediaTek MT6592 processor with 2GB RAM. There is 16GB of onboard storage, a 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front camera, Android 5.1 and 3,000mAh battery pack.
It looks like Pepsi has teamed up with a Chinese OEM to create this smartphone or at the very least has licensed its brand name for the device. It’s not as if Pepsi can make smartphones by itself and it would not have facilities that can make these devices.
According to the information from China, the Pepsi P1 smartphone will cost about $205 in the country and it’s expected to be announced on October 20th in Beijing. I seriously doubt it will show up anywhere else. Maybe Coke will have a phone of their own too.
