Video games that are turned into movies usually don’t do very well. There is a long list of video game movies that have been terrible and have bombed at the box office, but that hasn’t stopped movie studios from trying again and again. It rarely works out well.
Nevertheless, it looks like we could be getting a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the near future since Paramount Pictures has recently scored the rights to the movie.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount recently managed to get the rights to the movie which was previously in development at Sony Entertainment. The movie will be led by Neal H. Moritz and it will also have Deadpool’s director Tim Miller as the film’s executive producer, while Jeff Fowler will be making his directorial debut.
We have no idea what the movie will be about, but a good guess is that it will involve a lot of super speed and collecting rings. Video game movie adaptations being what they are, we can only hope that they do something original. There is no date yet, but we will surely hear more soon. Hopefully this will be better than most video game movies.
