Last year OMGPop’s game, Draw Something, was a big hit. Everyone was talking about it. That’s why Zynga decided to acquire the company, hoping that it could build off the success of Draw Something. Sadly, it seems that the novelty of the game has already worn off. They have lost as many as 5 million players in a short amount of time.
I wonder what Zynga’s plans are for it now.
Sadly, OMGPop might not have been the cash cow that Zynga was hoping for. According to The Wall Street Journal, the deal cost Zynga $200 million. If you take the number of days into account from the time the company was acquired to the day it was closed, it cost Zynga about $454,000 a day just for the cost of the acquisition alone.
Ouch! Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
