There had been hope that Sony’s next PS4 firmware update would include support for wireless headphones, since even their own Pulse headphones don’t work on the console right now, and now it seems likely that Sony plans to use the update to also launch some new audio equipment.
Unless you have a wireless headset that uses a USB connection, you’ve probably noticed that there’s not many choices for wireless audio on the PS4 at this time. We know there’s an update on the way, but there’s no real launch date for that update sadly. However, retail websites may have accidentally given us a clue as to when we can expect it, by uploading a new $130 wireless headset that Sony is calling the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset.
This headset has a 7.1 surround sound system with controls along one of the ear muffs and a collapsible frame for portability. It looks pretty nice too. If Sony plans on shipping these soon, then it would make sense that an update to the PS4 has to be right around the corner as well. Better late than never and now you have some new hardware too.
