Another day, another drone. Pretty soon the skies will be full of these unmanned aircraft and we will have to have weather reports on their whereabouts. Northrop Grumman has just unveiled the MQ-4C BAMS Triton, the latest addition to the US Navy’s Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Force.
This spy plane was than four years in development. It has a wingspan of 130.9 feet and it can cover more than 2.7 million square miles on a single mission. Yes it sounds like the Terminator of unmanned aircraft. This aircraft will be on it’s way into active service after completing functional requirement reviews and system development and demonstration flights.
It comes with the AN/ZPY-3 multi-function active-sensor, and a completely new 360 degree radar system that is supposed to be much better than the sensors in the Global Hawk. The navy isn’t always about new boats. Sometimes you need a bird’s eye view.
