When Nintendo first announced plans to launch mobile games, many of us were excited. Then when Nintendo chose to launch Miitomo as their debut title, we were confused. There was some interest in the game at first, but that eventually faded resulting in Nintendo announcing earlier this year that the game would be shutting down.
If you are still playing or have played Miitomo, the game has officially shut down. A message posted by Nintendo says, “We want to thank you for enjoying Miitomo so much. Miitomo’s service has come to an end as of Wednesday 9th May 2018, 16:00 (JST). We’ve come a long way since the app was launched, and once again we want to thank everyone who’s been involved.”
So Nintendo’s first mobile title has officially come to an end, although this is not the end of Nintendo’s mobile efforts. They have several games in the works, like Mario Kart for mobile. They have also recently announced the launch of a brand new IP designed exclusively for mobile.
Nintendo’s mobile games have been hit and miss. Super Mario Run looked promising but ended up not being as profitable as Nintendo would have liked, but hopefully, the company’s future games will be better. We can’t wait to see what they do.
